Scar Massage Program for the Hand

Scar massage is an important way to help promote healing of the hand after surgery or injury. Massage will soften scar tissue, increase movement, and decrease pain and stiffness.

First apply cocoa butter, lanolin, or vitamin E type lotion to the scarred or injured area of the hand. Then, using a circular motion, rub your incision with a light, gentle pressure at first, then a greater, more firm pressure, as the scar becomes thicker and stronger. You are actually mobilizing the scar not just massaging it.
